West Africa Cooks are listing this event called EGUSI PARTY on 2019-10-12 13:00:00

This Egusi Party is a joyful celebration of one of my absolute favorite things to eat--Egusi soup! Egusi soup is a melon seed-based dish cooked with fish (and other meats if you like), various divine spices, palm oil, magic and love. It is a dish from West Africa that is cooked all over the world. This event will feature the Nigerian version of this delicious dish. Egusi Soup is commonly served with pounded yam or eba, both of which will be served and both of which I will show you how to prepare. For dessert, there will be Mango Coconut Cake (it's vegan and, trust me, it does not taste vegan. It is a song in your mouth!)

At 1pm, I will be leading a tutorial on how to make egusi soup, eba and pounded yam.

At 3pm, we will eat! I will perform a few poems for y'all. A poetic serenade.

After or before you eat, you're welcome and encouraged to try on various pieces of my fashion line, Ankara Queen by Yv. Etaghene (a fashion line that honors Nigerian aesthetics and styles.)

***This event takes place in a private home in the East Bay, by Lake Merritt. The address will be sent to you after your purchase is complete. Thank you so much for your understanding.

Kitchen Poems

Egusi Party is presented by Kitchen Poems. Kitchen Poems is a project created by Yvonne Onakeme Etaghene to share her passionate love of food. Yvonne cooks Nigerian food and many dishes that are found throughout West Africa. She creates culinary remixes that incorporate Nigerian flavors and cooking aesthetics as well as traditional West African dishes. Etaghene creates flavorful, well-balanced meals using fresh, thoughtfully-selected ingredients. In Yvonne's own words: “Cooking is an act of love, sharing food is an act of love. Every part of cooking is a form of poetry. Kitchen Poems means I bring love and poetry together in order to feed you.” Etaghene specializes in Nigerian and West African dishes and also cooks select favorites from Jamaican, Black American, Sri Lankan and Indian culinary traditions. With love and tenderness, she makes delicious vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free and/or meaty meals. She caters and offer personal chef services.
