Applications for a stall at Africa on the Square 2017 are now closed. The deadline for October 2017's event passed in July. The below text is for information only and it provides a guide for all market traders in the future.

Africa On The Square 2017

The Mayor of London’s events programme includes cultural festivals and major events such Diwali, Africa on the Square, Eid and New Year’s Eve Fireworks. Other events supported by the Mayor of London include the Notting Hill Carnival.

Africa on the Square 2017 will take place for the fourth time on Saturday 14 October in Trafalgar Square. The event welcomes all Londoners and visitors. It aims to engage with London’s African communities and celebrate African culture, including music, fashion and food. Africa on the Square is a busy and popular event, with an estimated 25,000 visitors throughout the day.

Opportunity To trade At Africa On The Square

We are seeking traders who can present a unique, attractive and sustainable offer to Africa on the Square 2017.

Africa on the Square will have a focus on traders and experiences that exemplify African culture. In particular traders selling unique and original African inspired goods and foods, via one or more of the following opportunities:

  • Selling original African inspired items from a market stall
  • Selling African inspired hot/cold food/drinks from a concession stand

Market Stall Offer

The event will run 12--6pm and trading will take place within these hours.
Each market stall will be provided with the following:

  • 3mx3m marquee
  • 1 x 6ft. trestle table
  • Branded signage with trader name (mounted on marquee front)
  • Access to power (details of power requirements must be provided on application to verify power loadings)* Standard supply would be one 13amp socket only
  • Access to waste management services

Each catering unit will be provided with the following:

  • 3mx3m marquee
  • Branded signage with supplier name (mounted on marquee front)
  • 1 steel table and 2 chairs
  • Hand washing facilities
  • Protective floor covering
  • Access to power (details of power requirements must be provided on application to verify power loadings). Additional charge may be made for high power usage.
  • Access to potable water
  • Access to waste management services

Caterers will be required to provide all of their own equipment unless otherwise specified. This includes:

  • Correct fire extinguisher(s) for all identified hazards
  • Fire blankets
  • First aid kit
  • Table cloths / wipeable table cloths
  • Own cooking facilities as required

Any additional infrastructure required by the caterer and ordered through the event production company will be chargeable and must be paid for in advance of the event. Any damage or breakages of these additional items will be chargeable back to whoever signs for them on the day. Any failure on behalf of the caterer to supply all essential equipment in good working order may render the caterer unable to trade at the event. The Greater London Authority will not be liable for any refund, loss of income or expenses occurred as a result of any such oversight on behalf of the caterer.

2017 Fees

Market Stall fees are £290 (strictly no food) + cost of any requested additional infrastructure
Food Stall fees are £625 + cost of any requested additional infrastructure
Drink Stall fees are £350 + cost of any requested additional infrastructure
