Owner Steffini Bethea, The Purple Corkscrew Wine Shop & Tasting Room
The Purple Corkscrew was designed to feel like an extension of Bethea's own home offering a casual and welcoming experience. Since 2012 this cozy little concept has expanded into a popular gathering place where Bethea, who is imported from Detroit, invites her “friends” from across the country to sip and shop a curated collection of small vineyard, boutique wines from around the world.
The Purple Corkscrew anniversary festivities begin at 12 Noon on May 20, 2017 with a live Jazz Brunch & Bellini Bar until 3PM; followed by a Wine & Vinyl Day Party from 3PM to 6PM; closing with a Meet the Winemaker talk and tasting hosted by André Heuston Mack owner of Mouton Noir Wines, including Jazz and small plates from 6PM to 9PM.
André Heuston Mack owner of Mouton Noir Wines
As the leading African American winemaker in the country, Mack shares his passion for teaching others about winemaking and entrepreneurship in his TEDx Talk and panel discussions at top industry gatherings across the US. His message, “Be a Black Sheep…shut out what other people are saying and just focus. Do some soul-searching to figure out what you’re really good at, learn all aspects of your industry and put in the work.” He told Black Enterprise that he proudly carries the torch to illuminate the path for others to succeed not only in the wine industry but also as entrepreneurs.
An intoxicating synergy exists between the entrepreneurs and the brands which makes Mouton Noir the perfect finish to The Purple Corkscrew’s five year celebration. As one of only 3 African American wine shops in the metropolitan Atlanta area, Bethea also shares the distinction of being among a select few in the wine industry. She explains, “Like André Mack, I had to depend on good old fashioned entrepreneurial ingenuity to get where I am today. I want to celebrate our 5 year anniversary as well as the success of Mouton Noir.” Bethea believes the best wines are the ones we drink with friends. To that end she created The Corkscrew Sisters Wine Club to teach others ‘enough to be dangerous’ about wine so they can go anywhere and order wine with confidence.
