The Bronx Museum of the Arts
1040 Grand Concourse

Thursday, May 4th, 1:00 to 3:00pm

The Bronx Museum is excited to bring back the CommuniTea Senior Thursdays during Older Americans Month. Join us every Thursday in May for a special presentation of CommuniTea.

During the four CommuniTea Senior Thursdays in May 2017, Bronx-based artist Michele Brody will collaborate with Tea Consultant Jo-Ani Johnson and Chef Kareem Gonsalves to develop a unique pairing of organic SerendipiTea teas with exciting healthy dishes inspired by the extraordinary cultural mix of Bronx communities. The series is uniquely both cumulative and can exist as individual programs, should visitors only join for one event. All events will include a free tour of Museum exhibitions.

All ages are welcome.

This event is made possible by The Bronx Council of the Arts and sponsorship from SerendipiTea.

May 4: Our first program pays tribute to the Jewish community that once thrived along the Grand Concourse with an introduction to past CommuniTea programs through documentary videos of previous events and discussions.

May 11: The second CommuniTea will feature an interactive Poetry and writing program with Joyce Maio of Tea in a Bowl...Tea in a Cup and Bronx artist Francesca Alcantara. During this event they will work on creating a group poem in response to the tea and dishes served. The dishes are influenced by the Latin American communities of The Bronx.

May 18: During our Third Thursday international vocal artist Olivier Marcaud and Bronx-based sound artist Aaron Lazansky-Olivas will bring participants together to create a collaborative vocal interpretation of the poems produced during our group writing program. This event is accompanied by a Tea inspired by the African American Heritage of The Bronx.

May 25: For our culminating event, the Movement of the People Dance Company will present a dance performance on-site in the Museum to a live, interactive musical performance featuring past participants’ poetry and a traditional Korean Tea ceremony with Tea Master Yoon Hee Kim.
