Join us for a wonderful dinner at the American Ale House, State College and celebrate the founder of the University of Pennsylvania, Benjamin Franklin’s birthday with our featured guest speaker Ferree Professor of American History, Dr. Wilson Jeremiah Moses! He will be addressing “The Many Faces of Benjamin Franklin.”

Dr. Moses’s Ph.D. is in American Civilization (Brown University, 1975). He did his post-doctoral studies in the University of Cambridge, and a grant from the Ford Foundation. He was also a Fulbright Visiting Professor at Free University of Berlin (1983-1984) and the University of Vienna (1987-1988).

Dr. Moses teaches several areas of intellectual history, primarily American.  Besides multiple articles he publishes at different journals, he has also published six single-author books, often featuring the philosophical idealism of two African American intellectuals who studied in nineteenth century Europe. He published “Benjamin Franklin and the Gilded Age” in The Cambridge Companion to Benjamin Franklin (2008), and, “Du Bois, Africa and Pan-Africanism” in The Cambridge Companion to W. E. B. Du Bois, (2008).

He has spoken at numerous universities in the United States, Africa, and Europe, and recently lectured on his recently completed book Thomas Jefferson, A Modern Prometheus: Bearer of Light and Trickster God, which is under contract with the Cambridge University Press.
