The Brazilian Cultural Center of Chicago invites you to experience the cuisine of Brazil's African diaspora without leaving Chicago with this hands-on cooking class. Come and learn how to prepare authentic Afro-Brazilian dishes, such as 'moqueca,' a fish and vegetable stew; acarajé, a black eye-pea cakes, and other flavorsome dishes.
During this culinary journey, the host, a native from Salvador da Bahia, will lead an informal conversation on the history and culture of Brazil while teaching you technique of how to prepare the best moqueca. We will learn about the connections between West Africa and Bahian cuisine. Also, you'll learn how to make caipirinhas, our favorite drink mix made with lime and cachaça, a sugar-cane Brazilian liquor. Afterwards, we'll sit down to savor our delicious food in a family-style dinner.
