Submitted by West Africa Cooks on Sun, 2017-11-05 16:43

This article is about rum, sugar and human property; a tapestry of trade woven into the histories of the Caribbean, Britain, America and Africa.

Trade In Africans

African slaves were purchased with rum — slaves were purchased from African chiefs and shipped to the Caribbean to harvest sugar cane, which was turned to molasses and then rum, which was then shipped back to Africa to purchase more slaves.

Cakes Delights by Cynthia

Delights by Cynthia have created these African themed cupcakes as part of a collection. Theses incredible but edible cupcakes celebrate African arts and crafts – textiles, sculpture, beading and of course, nature. The African themed cupcakes are not only a delight to the eyes, but they taste delicious too. The flavours available are from Delights by Cynthia owner, Cynthia Akinsanya’s African store cupboard.

Cynthia Akinsanya created this collection to celebrate Black History Month 2016 and as a nod to her West African heritage. Her family is from Sierra Leone.
