African and African-Caribbean people suffer disproportionately from many diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, bowel cancer, breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, Lupus, and many other lifestyle diseases.
Water Aid helps West African children because without clean, safe water getting an education is almost impossible. Days and weeks are missed through illness. During the rainy season children get stomach problems like diarrhoea. Decent latrines can transform their lives. The charity Water Aid supports projects that bring taps, toilets and hygiene training to schools. This helps children get the education they need to fulfill their dreams and potential.

Muriel, former Home Economics Teacher, specialist in food and nutrition. Taught for 21 years at the Annie Walsh Memorial School. An examiner for many years for west African examination council (WAEC) in home Economics subjects.
Educated in Sierra Leone and Great Britain; has traveled extensively in Europe and America to gain more knowledge in cookery and to appreciate international cuisine.
For breakfast at the hotel had beans, chicken stew (hot ish), cous cous and paw paw with pineapple. Nice chop, although for the western market. Take a shower and went for a walk on Lumley beach. Pulling into the main Sierra Leone Port in Freetown a cargo ship with the name China Shipping. It's March 2013 and goods are arriving on mass. We know where is came from, there is no doubt that the owner wants us to know who they are and they have no secrets. What is in the hold of this massive ship from China? How many of these ships have arrived in the West African country this past year?
So you arrive in Freetown, West Africa in the early morning at the Lungi international airport safety from a British Airport night flight from London. In March it's hot and sticky it's 6am. Be prepared for being asked for money as the first foot hits the ground. The passport official was the first. I'll be your best friend now give me some money he said. You are dazed and don't expected it. Welcome to Africa.
Have just arrived back in the UK having stayed at the hotel for 7 days. Location wise I doubt you will find any better in Freetown. It is a prefect setting with two pools and stunning views and sunsets over the ocean. In march it was extremely hot so I often took dips in the pool or just chilled on a sunbed. I really enjoyed the food and you must try the red snapper which was very fresh and tasty.
